FKFicFest AO3 Collection and LJ Style
AO3 Collection.  With [personal profile] havocthecat's help, we now have a [community profile] fkficfest/fkficfest Archive of Our Own (AO3) collection.  I'll tell the community officially on Monday, noting that FKFicFest sign-ups are open through May 20 (so far: 6 submitted, 2 promised), but for any AO3 users, you may like to add your FKFicFest stories to the 2010 FKFicFest subcollection before then, for curious clickers to see.

LJ Style.  This request is a rerun.  If you happen to know an LJ style that permits a "sticky post" and a banner illustration without major manual CSS reconstruction, please share!  I want FKFicFest to be highly readable, have a sticky post (or sidebar text) and display a header illustration; so far, I've found no LJ style supporting all three.  (DW ideas are also welcome, but less needed.)

How comfortable are you modifying an LJ layout? I ask because I know that this layout permits both a sticky post and a header, but I don't know the details of how to implement those features. It's the layout we're using at sga_guide (courtesy of meylanna), although we don't have our sticky post up right now as we don't currently have any content for it.

Still deciding whether I'll have time for fkficfest this year, although I certainly want to do it.

Thank you for the recommendation! I'm looking at it. I'm afraid that while I have taught myself CSS, I'm not at all good at modifying existing LJ layouts by applying my own raw CSS to reconstruct theirs. It's much easier to customize the LJ layouts that come with modification "handles"! :-) Anyway, I'm trying, and we'll see.

We would certainly be happy and enriched to get to have you play FKFicFest this year! FWIW, the due date is 07/16, so you'll have Canada Day weekend to write...

did you decide?
>"Still deciding whether I'll have time for fkficfest this year..."

Did you decide? Stories are due in July. You have approximately three hours left to sign up, if you'd like to sign up. :-) Or, you know, take advantage of the fact that I will be asleep when midnight comes, and your time zone will wake before mine... ;-)

(No problem if that's not the plan! I just thought it was worth dropping a line.)

Re: did you decide?
Thank you for the reminder! I was out all evening and would have completely forgotten otherwise. :)

I've been wanting to ask this for some time now. How do I get access to posting to this "Archive of oue Own"? I can't find any link that says "register". There's only the "log in" and that doesn't seem work with my lj log in data. It keeps saying my username is unknown.
I've read several great FK stories that were posted to AO3, but I was never able to give feedback because I couldn't log in.

>"How do I get access to posting to this "Archive of our Own"?"

Because they are still in beta testing, you need an invitation to join the AO3. Here is their Invitations FAQ. You can sign up in their invitation queue (I did), or receive an invitation from a friend. (I don't have any, or I'd give you one.)

>"but I was never able to give feedback because I couldn't log in."

Frrom their Comments FAQ: "If you don't have an account on the Archive... you just need to enter a name and a valid email address to post a comment. Your email address will not be published on the site, but we use it to make sure that you are a human being."

Re: AO3 FAQs
Thank you. I'll proceed to do so. :)

Re: AO3 FAQs
How long did you have to wait until you actually received the invitation? Yesterday it said, I'm No. 4 and should geceive it on May 8, and today it says I'm still No. 4 and should receive it on May 9.

Re: AO3 FAQs
I waited a month to receive my AO3 invitation through the queue. However, that was when they still had a huge backlog of many hundreds of requests from Yuletide, which was played on the AO3 for the first time this past winter.

(The AO3 is a charity/non-profit organization run by fan volunteers.)
