Other FK-Eligible Sports
I've been referring to oldschoolfic (sign up by 06/30) and gen_ficathon (sign up by 06/25) as this summer's two FK-eligible ficathon games.  That's incomplete.  They are the large, exchange-style, FK-eligible events that I know of. :-)

Another game for which FK is eligible is cliche_bingo, in which players get a bingo card with a fanfic cliche in each square, and play their way across their cards by writing stories for each cliche.  Sign-ups closed early because of overwhelming interest (over 400 sign-ups).  I wonder what might be on a list of FK-specific fanfic cliches?  (Without character or faction bashing, natch.)

There was also the eighth round of Oxoniensis's NC-17 fanfiction game, which is now closed.  I heard of this round when at least two people sighed under locks that there were no FK prompts.  It looks like they play every June and January, so I suggest someone prompt "turtleneck" for FK next time. ;-)

And there is a moderately new gen_drabble community with weekly prompts, for which FK is theoretically eligible, although no one there has written it.

FK is also eligible for scifibigbang. Sign ups end June 30th and writers have till early December to put out their 25,000 words or more story. I know of one FK fan who signed up to write an FK story.

oxoniensis' battle snuck up on me this time around so no FK prompts from me. The first year I participated the prompt was from a former DarkNN writer who had left the fandom.

It's always encouraging to see FK represented in events that cross a wide spectrum of fandoms. I'll have to remember your "turtleneck" prompt for January. :-)

Hmm, interesting question. I think Nick/Nat movie night would have to be on there, as would the policemens' ball and the description of Nick as "the Knightmare". Another one could be the far reaching philanthropic power of the de Brabant Foundation and how Nick has more money than God. Also, I sometimes see the tendency to have Janette sprinkle more French into her everyday conversations then she did on the show.

cliche_bingo also provided this big list of cliches for reference and inspiration and it was fun to see which ones would work for FK and which ones wouldn't. I remember coming across a Schanke wingfic. Never in a thousand years would I have thought of FK wingfic.

I will look forward to reading an FK "big bang" product! Cool. (Does that person often post about FK? Should I look her/him up?)

Your list of FK-specific fanfic cliches is delightful, and spot-on. I might take "Knightmare" and broaden it to any punning use of Nick's name (*goan* gratuitous "Knight" puns).

I've been thinking vaguely of what kind of FK-specific fic event we might somehow, someday put together. That way, even if there were very few of us, we'd all be sure to receive FK prompts and get FK stories, which is such a risk in a multi-fandom event. Cliches might be a way to go. Or reviving all the old list challenges. I also thought of a simple exchange match, but asking each participant to submit one gen, one romance, and one other (crossover, AU, etc.) FK prompt.

>" I remember coming across a Schanke wingfic."

Good gracious golly! I could never have thought of that, either, until I read your comment. But now... sure, why not. Best that is it Schanke, really. Because if Natalie could fly with Nick, that might just go sappy, but Schanke could hold up his end of the weirdness with suitable protests, perhaps. :-)

From foxy11814's synopsis the story promises an interesting premise. She has a fanfiction.net account but it's devoted to Smallville and He-Man. However she's a big FK fan and her f-locked journal has the occasional bit of FK squee. It's definitely worth a look. FK fans have to stick together. :-)

That sounds like a fun read. It's one of my favorite cliches because it's the first I encountered in the fandom. It's definitely worthy of a ::headdesk:: reaction, lol.

I think that's a wonderful idea. It's a crap shoot when it comes to the multi-fandom events. Often times FK rarely make the cut as an official fandom. Off the top of my head I can think of six people who would likely participate, myself included. That would already be more FK fic than what's normally produced from a multi-fandom ficathon. Although, I hope this doesn't sound like I'm knocking those events because I'm not. I love that there are fic challenge communities that allow FK to be a participating fandom. I guess I'm just greedy and share your desire to see more FK fic.

As a ficlet it hits the spot perfectly. lastscorpion recced it back in 2007 over at fk_fanfiction. You can find it here. It was written by James or zortified.

Your statement there made a big impression on me. If even three of us played, that would be three new FK stories! I've decided to do it. I don't know how or when, but we should definitely create an FK-only fanfic fest.

I will make a post with my initial speculations, and see what people say.

>"It was written by James"

Of course it's by James. Who but James? :-) Schanke wingfic -- I should have instantly known! I haven't read it yet, but I so definitely will. I didn't realize that James had written anything FK in a decade. Thank you!

Awesome!

::high five::

I look forward to reading your post and the fandom consensus. :-)

Happy to be of service.
