a "hand-matched" exchange
I've seen a few ficathon/fest exchange announcements recently that advertise themselves as "hand-matched" (presumably as opposed to the AO3's automated matching).

If this is a selling point, I must remember to include it on future [community profile] fkficfest/fkficfest promotions!

I would. Because frankly, you and I were far better matched in the most recent RW-athon.

I apologize for the slow reply; for some reason, I didn't see this until today.

Yes, I agree. You and I matched on so many fandoms, and so many characters in those fandoms, that it's puzzling we didn't match in either direction. I suspect that the algorithm goes in order from hardest-to-match to least-hard-to-match and is "blind" to all other considerations.

Could being a very strong match actually work against that match being made with the algorithm? Hmmmm. No, that doesn't make any sense. :-) But it feels a bit like it, sometimes.

Heh. I was so positive that we were going to be matched that when we weren't, I just kind of stared at the screen for a bit thinking "that's not right...."
