NYT Stratford Review Praises GWD
Today, the New York Times reviewed this year's Stratford Shakespeare Festival: "Commands Both Martial and Marital" by Charles Isherwood (Part 1, Part 2).  (You should be able to view these via links from social media even if you don't have a NYT subscription and have used up your freebie views for the month.)

The top accompanying photo features GWD in Cymbeline, and the reviewer says: "For a Shakespearean king, the title character doesn’t get much stage time in Cymbeline. But the marvelous Geraint Wyn Davies cuts an imposing figure, movingly wonder-struck in the somewhat ludicrous final scene in which revelations are piled on revelations as the knot of the plot is untangled thread by thread."

Addendum: foxy11814 points out that NB is in that top photo, too. Can you spot him? ;-)

Nigel Bennett is in the picture, too, unfortunately only from the back in this particular picture. He's the bald Roman soldier on the left hand side looking up at GWD. =)

Now that you point him out, I believe that I recognize him. :-) Thanks! (I wasn't looking for NB, but should have been.) I will amend the post to share this news.

You're welcome. I figured people would get a kick out him being in Roman attire on the same stage as GWD, even if it is only a back shot. I know I was thrilled when they were on stage and speaking to one another. =)

Sorry about small edit, lol.

I wondered if that was him! The man is still carrying some serious muscle, too!

Yep, he looks and sounds exactly the same...just less hair. He's aged well. =)

::happysigh:: He sounds the same? Oh, good. NB is on my list of people where I would happily listen to them reading the phone book, just to hear the voice.

I quite agree. GWD, too...but it depends which accent he's using, lol.

That is so cool! I have never seen Cymbeline. I bet this version would be an awesome one to see. Thanks for sharing.

How wonderful that they receive such favourable attention in NYC.
Thanks for sharing!

It's even better than that it's in New York City. :-) The New York Times is still "the paper of record," that is, the most prominent newspaper in the United States. (I read it, though I live on the west coast.) This is the highest-profile review possible!
