FK Fanfic: "Puzzles"

When I posted "Puzzles," someone enthusiastically requested a sequel.  I've never forgotten the kind request, but I was never able to decide just what happens next.

In retrospect, this was the first of my "Natalie's Life Goes On" genre.  Like "Send My Love," "Better Late" and "Last Minutes," "Puzzles" picks up years past "Last Knight" without being a post-LK story, and sketches a life for Natalie that does not stop with canon.  Curiously, they all share that prelude-like construction.  I don't mean to leave things hanging!  But I speculate that it's defying the finality of LK.  "Forever means forever," and all.  Without end.

This is nifty, but now I REALLY want to know what is going on. Leaving us curious, just like Nat... :-(

"Puzzles" diverges in my mind, and I've never been able to resolve the back story to move on from the vignette. Sometimes I think Nick canceled the subscription to tell Natalie that the puzzle is solved, that he's found a cure. Other times I think Lacroix canceled the subscription, trying to rope Natalie in and use her in one more scheme to get control of Nick. I don't know which would make a better story. Choose your own adventure? :-)

Thank you for reading, and for being curious! I appreciate it.

I like the choose your own adventure idea...and I love hearing your ideas about where it could go. My guesses were that Nick was wanting to give (finally) a clean break, or that there was trouble he was insulating her from, or that he was dying or....but I didn't come up with the ideas that you listed, so it was neat to hear your projections.

Thank you very much for reading and commenting on this little ficlet! You're very kind, and I appreciate it!

I rarely write such short pieces anymore, but it's my friend much_madness's favorite length, and she's recently asked that I try to get back to it more often.
