FK Fan Diane E., Deceased
I just got the sad news that Diane E. died last week.  I knew Diane only a little, only on the FK email lists, back in the day, where she wrote mostly humorous fanfic, though some serious, too (archived here on the Former FTP Site).  We shared the lists in '96 for sure — that's all I get to claim — but I do remember.  (What FK fan could forget '96?)  People much closer to her than me are reminiscing about her beta-reading, her costuming, and her generosity.

I understand that she was only fifty-two and had been in hospice care with a brain tumor.

Peace, to Diane.  Comfort, to her family and friends.

Thank you for sharing the sad news. I didn't know Diane in person, but I remember reading some of her fanfic. My condolences to Diane's friends and family.

I tried to access the FTP site, but for some reason I get the error message "403 permission denied". I experienced the same problem with greerwatson's site and wonder what's wrong recently. Is anyone else having problems?

"403 permission denied"
>"Is anyone else having problems?"

I have not personally had any particular trouble accessing sites in general lately, and I definitely got into the Former FTP Site. I didn't know what a "403" error was, so I looked it up, and learned that it is a denial of "read access" and, according to eHow here and here:

  • The most common reasons are a damaged host file or damaged Internet Explorer file.

  • Otherwise, the error is often due to a Web accelerator or a firewall.

  • This error code does not apply to newer versions of Windows. Generally, it is an issue with Windows 98 and below.

Good luck!

[Addendum: I had to try repeatedly to get LJ to swallow this comment, however!]

Re: "403 permission denied"
Thank you for the information on error 403. Unfortunately I've been unable to match the instructions provided on the eHow website with my notebook. I tried to find similar instructions in German, but those refer only to homepages uploaded by oneself, which this is certainly not. I guess, I'll just have to live with the fact that I cannot access certain sites anymore, which is truly annoying. I hope the problem will fix itself over time since it occurred by itself.

These are the wiki updates I hate having to make. We've lost too many.
