Two Ficathons

  • Feb. 1st, 2009 at 10:40 PM

The 2009 [info]femme_fic ficathon is now accepting sign-ups here.  (As a reminder, this event celebrates female characters, minimum 1K words, sign-ups throughout February.)  Voting determined that FK will be a wildcard fandom again this year, so participants will need to sign up for two of the voted-in fandoms in addition to FK (or, you know, some other fandom ~g~).  What's different this year is that the sign-ups are not screened, so you can look over what has been requested/offered, and perhaps even craft your entry to match.  This was a very good event last year.

And the Claire Rankin-character Drabble-a-thon (hereinafter the Fleur Mini-Ficathon) is now open here.  Submissions are accepted throughout February (no claiming, no limits).  Some new Fleur stories would be cool (but of course her Atlantis and Voyager characters are also eligible).  Thanks to everyone who submitted Fleur prompts!  For your convenience, I'm sharing them here:  prompt list )  And thanks to [info]falcon_horus, for having the idea, and hosting!

[info]galpalficathon FK Prompts

  • Sep. 13th, 2008 at 5:53 PM
The prompts are not yet consolidated over at [info]galpalficathon, but in case you're toying with the notion of playing in their no-pressure, no-claiming, barely-a-deadline celebration of female friendship, the Forever Knight prompts that I've spotted are:  ample list )

I've been spending almost all my hobby time lately researching my [info]oldschoolfic Round II story, which of course means I have not yet begun writing it, and it will end up shorter than otherwise.  Poor Nick.  The first serious, substantive thing I promise to write from his perspective in five years -- the Doctor Who parody doesn't count -- and I twiddle away all my writing time boning up on the historical era.  Bad Knightie... Learning a lot, though!

Community Reminders

  • Aug. 23rd, 2008 at 4:08 PM
Just a couple of quick community reminders:

  • The prompts in the second [info]oldschoolfic ficathon are available for claiming until tomorrow, Sunday, August 24th, according to the moderator's most recent post.  You're committing to a mere 500 words by September 30, if you decide to play.  (Come, do!)  Two of the 15 FK prompts have been claimed so far (by me and [info]abby82).

  • The [info]forsaken_fandom awards project was put on temporary hold because of a tragedy in the moderators' family.  They're gearing back up now (FK nominees).

And now I'm off to the library for a book on McCarthyism, because the prompt I claimed references the "Spin Doctor" flashbacks.  Mmmmmmmmmm: research. ;-)

[info]oldschoolfic back-to-school ficathon prompts up

  • Aug. 17th, 2008 at 10:05 AM
The [info]oldschoolfic back-to-school ficathon prompts are now available for claiming, and there were 15 Forever Knight prompts to start.  To review, the game is to pick a prompt, write a story (500 words or more), and post it to the community by September 30, and yep, you don't need to have submitted a prompt in order to claim one.

It turns out that I was the only one to submit FK prompts.  Sorry.  It looks like I must pick one of my own if I want to play.  But you guys go first, okay?  If you want one, snag it!

[info]oldschoolfic Back-to-School Ficathon

  • Aug. 9th, 2008 at 11:03 AM
[info]oldschoolfic is holding a back-to-school ficathon.  All out-of-production fandoms that run a little quiet these days, including FK, are invited.  Now, this game is different from their last one: this time, the minimum length is 500 words (instead of 1000), the system is prompt/claim (instead of prompt/assignment), and there is a unifying theme of school (instead of no theme).
Their timeline is:  08/08-08/15 Submit prompts for others to write.  08/16-08/22 Claim a prompt to write yourself.  08/23-09/29 Claim another prompt if you've finished your previous one and want to do another.  09/30 All stories must be posted to the community.  10/07 Post your work elsewhere as well, if you like.

I'm a little concerned that between Worldcon this weekend and Vividcon next weekend, this may not be the ideal period to gear up high participation.  We'll see!  But it would be marvelous to have some new FK fiction.  I've submitted a few prompts (list below), but I'm sure you guys can think of much more provocative references, combinations and scenarios that will irresistibly seduce people into writing new FK! :-) Give it a try!

Prompts I've Submitted )

[info]medie has posted her official "Because We're Awesome" ("About the Girls") drabble-a-thon venue here.  The game is: write and post theme-appropriate comment fiction (drabbles, vignettes and ficlets) inspired by the prompts through Saturday 05/03.  There is a huge volume of prompts in a wide variety of fandoms.  In the interest of encouraging Forever Knight inspiration, I'm pulling out the FK prompts for quick reference here.

The FK and FK/Crossover Prompts )

Via [info]havocthecat, I learned that [info]medie is holding a week-long "About the Girls" comment fic festival -- like the [info]femme_fic ficathon on a different scale -- beginning Saturday.  (In fact, she's calling it a "drabble-a-thon," which charmingly conveys the scale, but I'm old-school enough to define drabbles specifically as 100-word stories -- the haikus of fanfiction! -- so I thought you might get the idea better if I called it as I saw it.)

Two of you that I saw had already posted FK prompts there -- go [info]abby82 and [info]falcon_horus! -- and, encouraged by Havoc, I just joined you here.  Anyone else want to play?  I doubt I'm going to manage to participate -- timing, life, stuff -- but FK does have such magnificent characters to show off...

Medie is screening to hold her place as she compiles, so I thought I would also save mine here, for myself for reference.  Drabble-Sized Prompts )

Inserted 04/27/08: The official drabble-a-thon post is here.

Quotation of the Month

“I never got to tell you how I felt about you; maybe you knew. I hope you did. You changed me, opened my eyes, and I'll always . . . always love you for that.”
