So I've signed up for
oldschoolfic's December exchange (rules/sign-ups; sign-up deadline is November 15; minimum 500 words). As usual, I asked for Forever Knight, Highlander or Young Blades. I offered those plus Rurouni Kenshin, Monarch of the Glen and Original Battlestar Galactica. I didn't offer any Buffyverse, Trek or other things this time; I hope my very short list doesn't make it difficult for the mod... but I would have restricted it to just FK, HL and YB, if that hadn't seemed very much too greedy.
I hope that all of you who are playing Yuletide are receiving inspiring prompts this weekend, and that those of you running with NaNoWriMo are surpassing all your goals! Good luck and great fun, all around.

The story written for one of my prompts in
gen_ficathon turned up this week (the author generously picked it up as a pinch-hitter after someone else defaulted). This is the ficathon for celebrating fanfiction beyond romance. Titled "Hero," by
alexajohnson, it's for my Star Trek '09 prompt. The other prompts I submitted in that event were Forever Knight (of course), Highlander, Young Blades, and Star Trek: The Next Generation -- highest number of prompts requested/allowed in any ficathon I've played in yet.
Speaking of ficathons,
oldschoolfic is running a poll about holding a "December Carnival" all-holiday exchange event. This is the ficathon for celebrating out-of-production fandoms. They're guaging interest, dates, and preferred minimum length, to start. If you're interested, please drop by. (If FK is eligible this time, and if I think I have good odds of getting an FK or HL asignment, and if Real Life keeps itself to itself, I plan to play. A lot of "if"s, I know -- but three Buffyverse assignments in a row this year! I'm fond of the Buffyverse, but I've got to come home to my own fandoms to recharge my hobby.)
Still speaking of ficathons,
fkficfest is up. It's not quite ready for members, insofar as we have some testing yet to do with posting from different accounts, and holding and releasing a queue -- I've never modded a community before -- and you don't need to live through that on your Friends List/Reading Page. But if you're interested in taking a look, please let me (or co-mod
amilyn) know what you think. We plan for sign-ups to begin in February, and stories to release in May.
I've been out of touch. I'll catch up this weekend!

The first ten stories in the
gen_ficathon queue have been released. None are FK so far, but one happens to be my AtS/BtVS story "From Now On," starring Faith and Wesley, written to
tielan's prompt. (Thanks to
leela_cat and
much_madness for beta-reading!)
This is my second Buffyverse story. My first was "Fortune Prove" (written for
femme_fic), and my third comes due on September 1 for
oldschoolfic. It's a Buffyverse year! :-)
Next year, we're having that FK event. ;-)

Many people have posted about this by now (much thanks to
abby82 for cluing me on) and everyone should know! If you've missed it so far, come catch up. "Rich's ComixBlog" is featuring a project called Forever Janette. (LiveJournal syndication of RSS Feed here; DreamWidth syndication of RSS Feed here.)
The praiseworthy art features functional resemblances and excellent composition. It's set between season two and season three, where so many wonderful tales fit. I've wanted to see FK as a comic for ages! There are sixteen installments so far. The creator seems to know his canon.
It's also a crossover with Doctor Who. ( Spoilers )

The
femme_fic queue is released! This is the "We Love Female Characters" ficathon, with a wide mix of fandoms and genres. There are unfortunately no FK stories this time (only
falcon_horus and I submitted FK prompts), but there are over fifty stories celebrating female characters! Take a glance at the catalogue post, and you're likely to see something in one of your fandoms.
I received a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Jenny Calendar prompt imagined by
havocthecat, and wrote "Fortune Prove" in response. Of the prompts I submitted,
pervyficgirl picked my Marvel Comics Scarlet Witch prompt, and wrote "Magic Mirrors Looking at People Who Belong to Us," which indulges me by crawling into the canon space after issue #12 of the second V&SW limited series (which they should reissue now).
It will take me weeks to read my way through the ficathon, but I want to note up front that there are new stories by
havocthecat,
amilyn and
falcon_horus from my LJ F-List (did I miss anyone?), and that I had the privilege of beta-reading for
amilyn and
seshat_maat. I'd also like to thank my own generous beta-readers:
amilyn,
batdina,
much_madness and
wiliqueen.

Needing a place for the results of multi-fandom ficathon events in which I don't happen to get FK assignments, I finally bit the bullet and put up my non-FK fanfiction, linked off my FK fanfiction. There isn't much. (To keep down the volume on the non-FK side, I invite everyone to submit lots of FK prompts in all future ficathon events. ~g~)
I'm afraid I'm behind on everything again. My apologies to anyone to whom I owe responses. (
endcredits, this includes the essay on why FK and SGA fanfiction are more than mere worlds and time apart. Delayed, not forgotten!)

Today, the last day of February, is the last day to sign up for the
femme_fic 2009 ficathon event (I've signed up) or to contribute to
falcon_horus's Fleur Mini-Ficathon (I'll post today).
An exchange-style ficathon can be a great opportunity to ask for a story that you've always wanted to read, but perhaps can't quite manage yourself; perhaps your ficathon match will have just the right background or inspiration to bring it to life! (
butterflykiki wrote me an outstanding HL story starring Methos and Tessa in that line last year.) Okay, okay, enough with the nudging... :-)

femme_fic ficathon fandoms compiled
Have you been waiting to see what's on offer before signing up for the
femme_fic ficathon? (As a reminder, this is the multi-fandom story exchange starring female characters.) We are now heading into the final week (sign-ups close February 28) and you can see all the requests and offers in detail on the sign-up post. And you can see my own sign-up here, and
havocthecat's here, and
amilyn's here, and
falcon_horus's here... did I miss anyone on my f-list?
For your convenience, I've compiled the requests and offers. Here are the fandoms in which people hope you are willing to write: ( List ). And here are the fandoms in which people will be happy to write if you ask: ( List ).
Even if you're not playing yourself, consider perhaps passing on the link to the game? Spread the news? It looks like a nice line-up, but it could use a lot more Forever Knight! :-) (Or, you know... how about Highlander? Young Blades?)

oldschoolfic Holiday Ficathon released
The
oldschoolfic Holiday Ficathon released on the evening of 01/04. There is one FK story! "A Time for Families" by
malinaldarose, a first-season Christmas with Natalie, Nick, Janette, lots of angst, and a happy ending (written for a prompt by
amilyn).
I didn't receive an FK prompt this round, so I did my very best to fulfill an HL prompt: "So This is Home," first-season Christmas, starring Richie, Angie, Duncan and Tessa. My ficathon match,
dragonsinger, similarly picked the HL prompt out of the three submitted, and kindly gifted me with "One Good Christmas," starring Richie and Tessa. (Yes, I love HL, and Duncan, Tessa and Darius are my favorite characters. Anyone here who couldn't have guessed that? ~g~)
As you know,
oldschoolfic is a community for out-of-production series fanfiction. Fandoms written this round were: BatB, BtVS, FK, Firefly, HL, Joan of Arcadia, K:tE, Nancy Drew, ST:TOS, VM, and West Wing. Next time, more FK, right? :-)

oldschoolfic Ficathon Released
The
oldschoolfic ficathon has been released from its moderated queue! It looks as if my "A Delicate Balance," written for
amilyn's Natalie prompt, is the only Forever Knight story in the batch, unfortunately. But there's BtVS, ST:TNG, HL, B5, VM, Farscape, original Battlestar Galactica, and more out-of-production series. (As usual, it will take me a while to read my way through.)
Next round, we really must muster more FK prompts and players! (Yes, I'm looking at you!) I did submit one, but
butterflykiki wrote my HL Methos and Tessa prompt instead, and as her "Fly Away Home" turned out so marvelously, I can't even wish she'd chosen otherwise. Both, sure. Otherwise, no. ;-)
