- On 10/09,
abby82, reminded us that Chiller has scheduled two more FK marathons: Saturday 10/10 ("Dark Knight" through "Cherry Blossoms"), and Thursday 10/15 ("I Will Repay" through "Only the Lonely"), both 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Likely these will be the CBS cuts, as in FK's first Chiller outing. - On 09/08,
abby82 uploaded the three promos for Chiller's Labor Day FK marathon. ("Before Edward. Before Angel. There was Nick. The original vampire with a heart is back. The cult hit that drew first blood and proves that you can't have twilight without the Knight.") And she teased those of us who do not get the Chiller channel with the observation that "Chiller edits made completely new scenes!" (Turns out, it was the original CBS cuts, which, yep, had their own special versions of several scenes.)
- On 09/20,
abby82 recapped her summer FK writing, of two short stories and an in-progress
scifibigbang novella or novel -- an AU, perhaps interestingly, as I know some of you love AUs best, and FK fandom doesn't often do them. - On 09/15,
ithildyn offered to write about Lacroix/Triona (an original character) and Methos/Lacroix/Triona in the "Couples" meme.
- On 10/01,
cousinmary reposted her "Yellow Jonquil," a Tracy story for a "medieval floral codes" challenge. - On 09/21,
genficathon released another batch of stories, including an FK one: "When Your Blood is Gone, How Will You Survive?" by
abby82, which stars Nick and Lacroix through several flashbacks.
- On 10/04,
endaewen noted that Amazon has dropped the price on FK's second season, and that she's ordered a set at last. - On 09/27,
abby82 shared many Lisa Ryder screenshots from her four-episode run on The Newsroom in 1996, following FK's cancellation. Very PhotoShop-able into Tracy. - On 09/23,
abby82 uploaded a snippet to share from her DVDs of season two of The Border, a funny anecdote by Catherine Disher. She also posted a still screenshot of CD.
What I've been up to is: work eats my life and health and I would like a different job. What you all have been up to is the following lovely FK-ness on my LJ Friends List:
Labor Day Marathon on Chiller!
On 09/04,
abby82 shared the great news that the Chiller channel is marathoning the first fifteen FK episodes (that's "Dark Knight" through "Dying for Fame") on Monday 09/07. There may be a better way to observe the Labor Day holiday than with our favorite civil servants, club owner and temporarily dead DJ... but I'm giddy that FK is on TV in the US again!

ithildyn posted a link to YouTube footage of the famous Green Eggs and Ham reading by Nigel Bennett and John Kapelos at Syndicon '97. Natsuko Ohama is with them. (I was actually at that con! You will not be surprised that the "Unsuited" affiliation was invented following this event.) - On 06/26,
pj1228 let us know that Nick Knight has at last been released on DVD in Germany (titled Twilight Vampire Cop), and she reviewed all the interesting peculiarities of the voice-over casting as well as the titling. - On 06/03 (I missed it the first time around),

FK on Individual Journals
- On September 1,
abby82 posted eight new FK icons (images, some artistic enhancement, no captions). She also mentioned the

wiliqueen and
abby82 posted about the Gemini Awards nominations, which include Catherine Disher's work on The Border and Ben Bass in Would Be Kings. (I've heard a lot about The Border, but Would Be Kings is news to me.) Beyond those biggies,
wiliqueen spotted Nahanni Johnstone (Wendy in "Dying for Fame") among the nominees, and
abby82 shared photos and links while opining on GWD's and NB's TV work in the eligible period.
Multi-Fandom (Including FK) Communities
- On September 6, voting opened on the
forsaken_fandom community for their awards (Rules, FK List, FK Ballot). Some FK authors didn't approve their nominations; I hope they all got to hear about it and choose. (It has crossed my mind to not vote, because I do not wish to read, nor endorse by a vote, the "non-con" category. The rules allow underage voters to leave the "adult" categories blank; perhaps I will ask permission to do the same. Anyway, it's on my mind.) - On August 30,
butterflykiki linked to the
whattheficathon community, which is a crossover fiction exchange that could include FK in its next round, if it holds one, but there seem to have been no FK crossovers so far. - On August 27, the
oldschoolfic moderators introduced an optional modified challenge for those who didn't click with any of the original prompts. Stories are due at the end of the month. (
abby82 and I are participating, so we're assured of some FK!) - On August 26, the
galpalficathon community went up. This is a prompt-based, commitment-free ficathon focused on female friendship (that is, any positive platonic relationship between female characters: relatives count). Many people are very excited about it, and prompting is open through Monday, September 8, so check it out! Leave a prompt for Natalie and Janette, Janette and Urs, Urs and Tracy, Tracy and Cohen, ( the list goes on ). I have not submitted any prompts yet, but I will (there are as yet no FK prompts there).

I know this was asked and answered back when the second soundtrack CD first came out in '99, but I'm afraid I've forgotten. Remind me? You know that final, unlisted, almost-hidden spoken-word bit at the very, very, very end of the second FK soundtrack? It's part of the final track (suite from "Last Knight," movement "End of an Era"), not separate, but you don't hear it until you wait through a period of silence.
Is that Geraint Wyn Davies's voice? Or is it Fred Mollin's voice? (I recently listened to it on a better sound system for the first time, and it sounded different to me, making me doubt what I thought I knew. Perhaps it's just time passing.)

A male voice says:
"Well, here we are. We're coming up to a new millennium, going into our next eight-hundred years together. What's gonna happen? I don't know. I don't know. Just hope we can do it together. Hope we all make it through. Stay friends. Maybe find some new ones. Should be fun. Just keep a smile on, huh? Yeah, keep a smile on."

The Border in Discussions with US Networks
[Crossposted from forkni-l.]
I've seen it speculated on list that Catherine Disher and Nigel Bennett's new show, The Border, might make it to US television, but I hadn't seen anything in the wider press until this snippet from a 02/01/08 Reuters article: "The distributors of another Canadian drama, CBC's 'The Border,' are in discussions with several U.S. networks, including CBS and ABC."
I wonder whether full US network airings of The Border, if successful, might have any subtle influence on SciFi or Chiller putting FK into the line-up for a round or two.

In reply to a question as to who brought Daniel across in the flashbacks of the episode "Father Figure:
The strong implication is that it was Lacroix -- and Nick believes it is Lacroix -- but it happened off-screen, so you can certainly create an interpretation in which Janette is Daniel's maker. However, as with the Baroness in "If Looks Could Kill," that interpretation runs up against Nick's need to ask, in "I Will Repay," whether Janette has ever brought anyone across, and her clearly saying "no," that she is "too much the glutton" and they have always died before she could bring anyone across. ( Read more... )
In reply to a question as to whether the actor who played Daniel grew up to be the actor who played Anakin Skywalker:
Confused, sorry! It is the young actor who played Nick's nephew Andre in "Fallen Idol" who grew up to play Darth Vader. I went into that movie as excited about seeing what Fleur's son would look like at that age as anything Mr. Lucas could share with us after the Jar-Jar fiasco. ( Read more... )

I saw the new Nancy Drew movie today. There's a drama-teacher character in it, barely a two-line role -- "Thank you; that's enough" and "The play is Pippin" -- male, blond, on the screen for but a split second. I leaned forward in my seat, suddenly, but gone! too fast to tell. Just for a heartbeat, it looked like, sounded like . . . GWD.
I'm delusional, right? The role is uncredited on the screen and in IMDB and on the movie's official website. Doubtless this is complete coincidence, and wishful substitution by my imagination, making a good old fashioned YKYBWTMFKW moment. Surely we would have heard. But what if I just haven't been scanning my forkni-l digests carefully enough? What if I missed something big?!
I'm sure you guys will let me know. :-)
Addendum: This speculation was later confirmed. It is believed GWD did indeed play that role.

Drive and FK
[Crossposted from forkni-l. Backdated. In reply to a comment that Kristen Lehmen's character on Drive is not as interesting as her character Urs on FK.]
In my opinion, the second hour/episode of Drive is where Kristen Lehmen's new character becomes interesting. (Though of course I'm more interested in Urs, because she is of FK.)
Stated carefully to avoid spoilers, I'm only up to the second Drive episode of the four that have aired, but it was in the second (with the development of KL's character) that I began to think that this new show might touch on one of the things I love best in FK: quest structure, long-term striving. While so far none of the characters seem to be driven by Nick's very particular choice-gone-wrong and redemption paradigms, there is an element of second chance or last chance that resonates with me on a similar frequency to FK.
