FKFicFest Sign-ups Are Open
As you know, sign-ups for the 2011 [community profile] fkficfest/fkficfest game opened yesterday (which, by coincidence, was GWD's birthday).  At this time, one swift and decisive person has already signed up, two have mused on signing up, and one has recommended creating an AO3 collection where people may post their fest stories, which I will surely do.

We have a month to submit prompts, so: no rush.  That's good for me, as the community was so generous last year, and spoiled me so thoroughly, that I hardly know what to wish for this year! ;-)  It's also a good reason to space out reminders and invitations a little.  Please do spread the word to your friends and communities, where appropriate; perhaps a great way to do it might be posting to your own journal on the day you sign up, saying, "Hey! I'm in! Are you?"

I have high, happy hopes for this year's game!  I also have worries, inevitably.  (I am, after all, a Knightie.)  Wish us luck?

I was only able to sign up so fast because I had my prompt ideas already written months ago. And I jumped onto the comm as soon as I got my internet connection back (3 days and no 'net! Aaaaaugh!).

Well, I *did* tell you I'm excited! :D

I appreciate your excitement! :-) Perhaps if we all were so speedy, we could have another month in which to write. :-)

I offer sympathy on three days without connectivity. I would have been at the public library every evening for the duration, using one of their computers, I know.

"(3 days and no 'net! Aaaaaugh!)"

That does sound horrible. I need my fix.

Great to see this up and running - sorry it's taken me so long to respond! Quick question: "non-con" - what does this particular shorthand mean *sigh* Nevermind, nothing to see here, move along... (gah, took me long enough to remember "non-con" is non-consensual ;>)

Annnnd - any help you need, brightknightie, please just holler and I'll do what I can!

And in case it wasn't clear - I had MORE fun the last time you did this - I'm SO glad you're doing it again!

Thank you for the offer of help! Your enthusiasm is wonderful! Thanks for sharing it.

>"non-con" - what does this particular shorthand mean?"

A standard content warning, "non-con" stands for "non-consensual" (rape, assault, coercion of any kind). There is also "dub-con" which stands for "dubious-consent" (intoxicated, blackmailed, mental impairment, etc.). In ficathons, both are frequently listed as things that people will not write and/or strive to avoid reading.

Many people find such content deeply problematic ("triggering") even when it is used most carefully as the crime to be solved in a mystery plot or delicately as the theme to be examined in a social justice or psychological plot. And of course when it is used otherwise, when it is used to actually glamorize evil... speaking strictly as a private individual, not as a public mod: zero tolerance.

Yea, from a personal p.o.v., not my thing either - thanks :>

May I ask, how did you edit your post after I'd already replied to it? I thought that as soon as a post was commented upon, the "edit" option went away. Have they changed something? I would often love to be able to correct a typo later on...

Nope, i suspect i just slipped in under your wire - i've never been able to edit after a response either, darn it!

My edit shows up at 6:59, your reply at 7:25.

I bet that I had my composition window open while your edit went through. Still, when my reply posted, I didn't see the edit; I saw the original post. Odd!

Oh, well. :-)
