Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity-Jog
I'm three weeks behind on reading blogs.  (I've been working severely excessive hours, and it had to give.)  I will do my best to thoroughly catch up.  In the meantime, if there's something I should not miss, let me know, and I'll rush it to the top of the stack!

LiveJournal sent a birthday heads-up for susanmgarrett this morning.  This made me grin, because in addition to generally wishing her well and many more when her day comes, her birthday is properly a late-summer prompt to fill fkfic-l with stories!  :-)  The "Susan's Birthday Challenge" was a good tradition.

And speaking of fkfic-l, did you notice that Mary Ch. is back and posting?  [insert Abby's Snoopy Dance icon here]  Although she is sorely plagued by =20 disease this time out, and is working on fixing that with Hotmail standing in her way.  You must hard-wrap story posts to get through the listserv clean with all recipients.  I use 60 characters these days because of listmembers who use Yahoo Mail, which wraps even more severely than the listserv.  I know how to get Eudora to hard-wrap for me at a chosen character count; do you know other tips and tricks for other email and wordprocessing applications that we could share?

I taped the two-hour premiere of Mr. Parriot's (and Ms. Cox's) new series, Defying Gravity, last Sunday, but have not yet watched it.  The next episode is tonight at 10:00 PM Eastern/Pacific on ABC in the US (and those parts of Canada that get US broadcast stations).

So we're definitely doing an FK-only fest/ficathon game!  Yes!  Details remain to be worked out, but as the current date suggestion is May 2010, we've got plenty of time.

We've started watching Defying Gravity as well -- intriguing so far.

I still haven't gotten around to watching the Defying Gravity premiere I taped, I'm afraid, and I forgot to tape the second installment last week! I hope ABC will have them up online when I go to catch up.

(I rarely see TV except when I'm exercising these days, and I've been sticking with Buffyverse material from my stationary bike because both ficathons handed me Buffyverse prompts... one story down, one to go.)

I'm sure they will.

We were disasters at . . . well, either remembering to tape, or finding just where on the tape was the thing that was taped for M. vs. the thing that was taped for me vs. the thing we both wanted to watch . . . the DVR has made it so much easier. Except there are now *four* shows one or the other or the both of us want to watch on at 9 on Wednesdays and the DVR only will record two. Eep!

Also, Defying Gravity is either going to be intriguing science fiction with lots of claustrophobic relationships . . . or it is going to be Melrose Space. I have not figured out which, yet.

Wait, wait, someone's posting to FKFIC-L? I'm on that list, and I'm not getting any fanfic posts. *frowny face* This makes me displeased. I've been in the mood for FK fanfic lately.

My mom has told me a bit about Defying Gravity. It's, um, interesting. I don't know if I'm going to be watching, especially as it's a Parriott show that's genre and he has a "plan" for the next three years, and Parriott with a plan makes me wary. On the other hand, Christina Cox. *sigh*

>"Wait, wait, someone's posting to FKFIC-L? I'm on that list, and I'm not getting any fanfic posts."

It's a crossover with early Airwolf (not later "Gerwolf"). Are you set "-xover"? She's been struggling with the =20 thing, though, and has so far only posted and reposted the first part.

>"I don't know if I'm going to be watching, especially as it's a Parriott show that's genre and he has a "plan" for the next three years..."

Yeah. I still haven't watched the premiere I recorded, and I forgot to record the second episode last night (I was busy posting my gen_ficathon story (due tomorrow) because I knew I'd have no time during the work week).

I thought I was set for crossovers. Damn. Now I have to go and add myself in on those. Thanks for the post about it! Now I know I'm missing fic.

I think that the default subscription is -xover, -adult, +war. (I suspect that the +v4s filter is still operative, but meaningless.)

I've been watching Defying Gravity: it's not bad. There's some sort of underlying conspiracy-type secret—about which I will say no more, not just to avoid spoilers, but also because they're still only hinting about it. I guess this all ties in with Parriott's three-year plan. I'm always a bit leery of conspiracy-type things in TV shows, so I'm going to wait and see. So far, though, the main focus of the episodes has been character development; and that is a good thing. The acting is excellent; and the visuals have a very realistic near-future feel to them.

There's no problem getting the show in Canada: it's on both CTV and Space. Apparently they're involved in some way with the whole co-production thing that happens such a lot nowadays. And happened "back then" with Forever Knight, of course.

Everyone has been positive and cautiously optimistic about it so far! I just haven't had a chance to catch up yet.

>"I'm always a bit leery of conspiracy-type things in TV shows..."

Me, too. They're not pushing my buttons with the angle.

>"There's no problem getting the show in Canada: it's on both CTV and Space."

That's good to hear! Thank you for letting me know.
