I've got a title! How about you?
A wretched virus wrested away my holiday weekend, knocking me flat, and has continued snatching my precious non-work hours from their rightful summer devotion to [community profile] fkficfest/fkficfest ever since. In other words, while I have read four non-fiction books and watched three documentaries relevant to my prompt, and rewatched first-season twice — first-season is my happy place — since receiving my match, I still don't yet have a blessed word of actual story. Yikes! I try to trim down the idea in my imagination for every day I lose to this dratted plague.

However, I have achieved a tentative title! Not much of an accomplishment, I know — three words toward my thousand? ;-) — but it cheers me. Titles shape stories, for me, every time I open and save and see a file. Stories almost always go better when I know the title in advance. (So there, virus!)

Those of you writing for FKFicFest this time, how are your stories going? Those of you not writing, have you considered beta-reading (DW/LJ)?

The first pass at my story so made my poor beta's eyes bleed that I stopped and went to a re-write before we got any further than the 1st 3 paragraphs.

Yikes!

It seems I'm better at writing from a particular P.O.V. - and this is requiring I stretch more than I realized :>.

I'm hoping the 2nd stab will be far less painful.

Many cheers to you for doing the hard and precious work of revision! I know that it will pay off for you! I hope that we can all finish our first drafts in time and find a kind beta reader to help us polish. Me, especially! :-)

;-) From your description.... hmmm... writing Screed, eh? ;-)

You will be relieved to hear that, Steph being away for about a week, I have put on hold (more or less) the restoration of sites for the FK Website Archive.

So I am now at the reviewing/watching preliminary stage. However, I know what I'm going to write; so the prelims do have focus.

I'm glad that you know what you want to write, and I hope that you have lots of fun getting ready and getting writing! :-)

It's wonderful that you have a title! I don't think I've ever had a title before I started writing. Usually that's the last thing I do, and one of the hardest. Good titles are a challenge.

Good titles are indeed challenging!

I'm always much happier with one in hand, when I'm so lucky, and I find that my best stories are almost always those that had a title throughout their development... I won't make any claims for that circumstance saving this one ;-) as it's under some dire pressures, but it makes me more optimistic than I would otherwise have been.

Good luck with yours! If you have a keyword, plug it into Bartleby's and see what comes up?
